You could, but if it was spicy, it would burn like the dickens. I would reconmend, as well as any doctor, to just let your throat rest, have a coughdrop or cough/sore throat product, and wait untill your throat feels better. Then have your chili.

Well, its not the best thing to do becuase of the spicy flavor and of the hottness. Consider the cause: a bug that's going around the office, enthusiastic cheering, or perhaps something more serious, such as strep throat. There are instant strep throat test strips that can tell you in less than 30 minutes if you have strep throat. Be aware, though, that these strips sometimes deliver false negatives.
2Step TwoTake an analgesic to reduce inflammation; aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen for an adult, or acetaminophen or ibuprofen for children, as recommended by your doctor.
3Step ThreeSuck on throat lozenges if you are an adult, especially those containing menthol, benzocaine or phenol, which numb the throat. Zinc lozenges may also be helpful. Children should suck on cough drops or hard candy.
4Step FourGargle with mint mouthwash or salt water.
5Step FiveSpray a throat spray containing numbing agents into the back of your throat, if you're an adult.
6Step SixBrush your tongue. Sometimes, removing the buildup on your tongue can lessen the soreness in your throat.
7Step SevenRinse your toothbrush in mouthwash between brushings to kill bacteria.
8Step EightDrink ice-cold beverages. Try filling a glass half-full of crushed ice; then pour fruit juice over the ice. Let it sit for 10 minutes, insert a straw and suck slowly, letting the juice rest a minute on the back of your throat.
9Step NineAdd moisture to your environment with a humidifier or vaporizer, or sit in a steamy shower or bath.
10Step TenEat soft or liquid foods, especially sherbets and chicken broth.
11Step Eleven Avoid cigarette smoke and other airborne irritants.

The spices might actually help fight the infection. But if you can't swallow it, then I wouldn't force it down. Then it would make it worse. If it hurts more later, try drinking a glass of lemonade (more sour than sweet) or sucking (not too hard...might make it even worse) on an ice cube. Hope it feels better. I had a HORRIBLE sore throat a few years ago. I could hardly swallow. I ended up getting my tonsils taken out about two years ago.

It would not be a good idea to eat that right now, the spices in the chili are probably have an acidic base and it will burn very badly when it goes down.

If you really want to eat it, you can. But it will most likely make your throat hurt more. Especially since it's spicy.

it wont effect your sore throat in that the spicy doesnt burn your throat it is affecting your taste buds. you may feel upsetness in your throat because the chili is hot but other than that your sore throat shouldnt be affected in anyway. if it should however just take a coughdrop and drink plenty of water.

You will be ok as long as you don't scarf it down, putting to much pressure on the throat. If you take small bites slowly your throat won't feel overwhelmed!
Enjoy your Chili!

That sounds really harsh for a sore throat. Usually people eat soothing foods like soup, jello, pudding, ice cream or popsicles.

its best to stay away from spicy food or anything cold that could irritate your throat. Soup is good and tea with honey usually helps too.
