OK, we are thinking about renting an RV in March for 2 weeks and heading out from our home in North Carolina (Winston-Salem area) and going south and west. We don't want to go to Florida - we've pretty much seen it. The one thing we want to do is the Natchez Trace National Parkway from Nashville to Natchez, Mississippi. Any suggestions on things we should do in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee? Thanks very much!

Mornin,

I looked into rental links; which you probably have. Here in Cent. FL; Cruise America seems to fill the interstates.

Certainly the Smokies; as suggested; although So. East TENN is nicer than No. East.

For a City; Charlotte SC is pretty decent. Northern Georgia has "mountain" areas. I especially enjoy HELEN area.

Northern ALA, and MISS, are simialar to the rest of the Midwest as agricultural; and I pass through but rarely search.

Also without mapping it I can't know how far you want to travel, or for how long you want to be OUT.

Even for non members AAA offers decent guides to find even those out of the way; GENTLE touristy places; and a decent rental company may as well?

March in the Smokeys might still be NIPPY, with snow in places?

Nice notion though...Be safe; Have fun.

You can always stay in a Walmart parking lot--they don't care but if you are going to be there for a week, you should stay in a campground. After all, having your sewage and electricity hooked up will save you a lot of gas for your generator. Unless the temperature is good enough that you don't need to run much A/C. You don't need to stay at a Disneyland campground. Why not just find a local campground? Sure it will be a little further ride to Disneyland but that's fine if you were towing your car. A KOA will be more in the $30-40 a night rate. I have done many vacations in RVs with my family. As for anything important you should know...feel free to email me. Don't get to your campground after dark. It's really hard to back in to your spot. Ask when you check in for a pull through spot or a spot with no one on either side of you yet--though usually the rental RVs have a paint job that says RENTAL RV so they automatically know you haven't driven one of these before.

Go to www.lightninrv.com and click on 'Rentals' in the menu. Once there you can see and compare our entire RV Rental program vs. what you'll find from the national chains. We have a lot of customers that come down from both North & South Carolina to depart from our location in metro Atlanta that want a newer and better equipped motorhome.

Take a look at our 'Special Events' Calendar for a list of a lot of great things to see & do during the time you're going out...but also look at it for the entire year, as the destination sites we list, are good pretty much all year long. Then take a look at all the great ideas and helpful tips listed in 'Travel Links'. At our link for 'Campgrounds', you be able to connect to every known campground in the U.S. and Canada. I'm right in the middle of doing a lot of updates for 2008, and with luck everything wll be posted by Christmas at the latest, so keep looking.

If you have any questions on RV rentals, you'll find the answers to a lot of your questions on our 'FAQ' link, and there's a link to my email address if you have a question you can't find an answer to on the list.

Might consider stopping in one of the AAA offices. Pick up tour books for the states you plan on visiting. They are not real expensive and have an inordinate amount of information.
