So yah...

My computer keyboard is packed with three months worth of parrot+cat+ferret ****. There is also alot of cigerett (well...we'll call them cigeretts) ash in it.

Well I gotta clean it. How should I go about it? My homie down south-side said kerosene should so the trick but I'm afraid itg may not be strong enough.

Acetone...Gasoline I don't really know what I should use.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Booyaka,

Take off all the keys and clean it out with a damp rag, but MAKE SURE IT'S NOT PLUGGED IN! Oh and don't try this while you 'smoking cigarettes' or you may not know where the keys go. You can also buy canned air to spray all the dirt out of it...but only use it for the keyboard.

Believe it or not, most keyboards can be put inside a dish washing machine. Just be sure to allow the keyboard ample time to dry completely before using it again. I do this to my keyboard whenever it needs it and have yet to find a more effective method.

Of course, I use an other style keyboard. This may not be such a good idea with newer, featured filled complex keyboards. Take it for what its worth ;)

The only other truly effective option is to remove the keys and clean it manually.

Computer vacuum:
Yes, there are vacuum cleaners designed especially for computers.
Can of compressed air:
You can get this at a computer or electronics store. Compressed air is great for blowing the dust out of tight spots, such as between keyboard keys.
Soft brush:
a clean paintbrush with soft bristles will do. Use the brush to dislodge any stubborn dust that the vacuum won't pick up.

My friendly neighborhood computer geek told me this one: Unplug the keyboard and spray it down with Scrubbing Bubbles cleaner. Scrub any crusty parts gently with a toothbrush then put the keyboard in dishwasher and run it through the cycle. Remove before the dry cycle or put it on AIR dry. Allow to dry out for 24 hours and viola - squeaky clean. I have done this for the past several years with no ill effect.

unplug it first

take a photo of it with a good camera - for later -

Now carefully remove all the keys

Now clean under the keys, and the keys too
Makes sure everything is dried completely of what ever you use

Remember that photo, use it to put all the keys back on the right place

Take it outside and hose it off with the water hose. Then throw it in the cloths dryer to get the water out of it.
