I was wondering if they actually generate any income...

Think about this for a minute. For every dollar ANYONE receives, SOMEONE is sending out $6. At some point, you HAVE to run out of people willing to fork over the $6. Unless you get paid before that happens, you DON'T get paid.

PS Chain letters such as this ARE illegal.

Thats one of the oldest scams around - they are also called "pyramid schemes" or "chain letters."

No, they' may generate money for the original sender, but that's about it.
