How can I transfer video from a dvr box to a computer?

If you have a TiVo it's simple. Just use the TivoToGo features of their TiVo Desktop software. I don't know about other DVRs, but if you have an unencrypted DVD, then it should be readable on your PC with Windows MediaPlayer, Nero or other software. Personally, I've had great playback results with VLC media player.
