I have a project for my economics class. I am supposed to argue that americans should buy american against people arguing that we shouldn't. THis would be an easy assignment, however, I am having trouble finding any websites to use a references. Does anyone know any good ones supporting american-made products?

Top Ten Reasons to Buy USA Made Products:

10) Foreign labor standards allow unsafe worker conditions in many countries.

9) Jobs shipped abroad almost never return.

8) US manufacturing processes are much cleaner for the environment than many other countries. Many brands sold here are produced in countries using dangerous, heavily polluting processes.

7) Worker wage exploitation. Low or no real minimum wage in many countries.

6) Growing lack of USA ability to manufacture many products is strategically unsound.

5) Huge US trade deficit leads to massive, unsustainable borrowing from other countries.

4) Foreign product safety standards low. For example, poisonous levels of lead are in millions of toys shipped to the USA.

2) Factories and money are shifting to countries not friendly to the USA or democracy.

1) As the US manufacturing ability fades, future generations of US citizens will be unable to find relevant jobs.

Rather than focusing on "buying American" you should focus on the consequences of not buying American. Look for things about outsourcing. You can also talk about the recent toy recalls and how those problems might not happen with American made products.

Lou Dobbs from CNN had done many pieces on this issue. You might be able to find some on YouTube.

Also look for news on companies that specifically refuse to outsource and use American products and/or components. Sorry, but I don't have any specific companies in mind.

Also talk about the trade deficits with various countries and how this effects our economy; how these trade deficits make us more vulnerable to global economic ups and downs; maybe compare our economy with countries that have a trade surplus.

Unions have really hurt the economy. They started as employee protection groups but soon became drunk with power. Now you have to pay a guy $70 an hour to do something an Indian will do for $2 an hour.

It should be no surprise people don't want to buy American - they can't afford it.

American made products, made by American workers, cost too much because Americans always want raises.
Most Honda's and Toyota's sold in the U.S. are made by American workers, prior to contrary beliefs.
It's an old union ploy to "buy american" to keep jobs.

Maybe try googling --- "American Lay Offs" and possibly google "outsourcing" -- many of us have lost jobs in companies in the USA -- where we were born and raised only to have companies go overseas because they can pay lower wages. The more this happens, the more our jobs go DOWN -- people end up homeless and on the streets.....I hope that helps some.....??

you should take a poll and research what products Americans mostly buy, no one wants to pay more for the same thing right unless they are rich or just plain don't care

Not a website, but you should include why American's shouldn't buy WalMart anything. There are a lot of resouces for that --

Can't you use the principles of economics that you are learning for your debate?

Think about our already overly large trade deficit.

Think about quality of merchandise.

Think about sweat shops.

This is a cake walk!
