A good amount of time would be 2-3 months.
When the first sign odor occurs toss it immediately.
This means too much air has gotten in and bacteria is building up
A way to make the mascara last longer is to not pump the wand in out. This allows air to come and makes the mascara go bad faster

1) 3-4 months
2) It gets clumpy

no more than 3 months. if it smells odd or starts to clump, toss it. those are signs of bacteria growth, and you don't want to risk an eye infection.

6 months for any makeup then after that you need to get new becaues makeup is a breeding ground for bacteria!
