I probably would ask them if they ate something with garlic in it and if they said no, I would tell them I smell garlic or some other odor. Maybe they'll get the hint.

If it's bad breath, I'd offer them a mint. If it's body odor, I'd ask them to hold it in their armpit.

speak to them privately. If you are open and honest and provide feedback tactfully, your friend will appreciate your honesty. I once had to approach this situation with a co-worker. I asked them if they were using a new perfume or soap. I told them it wasn't offensive, just strange. For the next few weeks, that person asked if I could smell anything, and thank goodness, I hadn't!

this is what i do...take him/her aside and say hey i need to tell u something and im not trying to be mean, but whenever u come close to me i smell ____(whatever u smell) its better i tell u than someone else telling u and embarressing u in front of people. i care about u and don't want people talking about u. and make sure 2 u say...i smell funny too sometimes, and i wish people would be honest with me instead of letting me walk around not knowing. just to make it seem like he/she is not the only one with a problem. good luck

Seriously people!!! You be honest.I had to do this to not only an employee, but someone who had become my friend...People were complaining so I just told him.He had no idea and was so thankful I told him rather than having others talk behind his back.Turned out it was cause he didnt like to wear underwear! Yes hes still my friend.

privately and sincerely, but very very gently you don't want them to be insulted, but you also need to get your point across. They probably have no idea. So simply say, "Listen, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but I think that if I were you, I would want you to tell me, but I think you have a b.o. problem or halitosis, I hope you don't think I am overstepping my boundary but as your friend but I think you ought to know" and then smile and try to crack a joke or do something to lighten the mood to take the focus off the issue asap

I know it sounds rude but all in all wouldnt you want to know if you smell? Just tell them that their deodorant is not working as well as it shoudl and offer suggestions for adifferent kind or something.

As a present give them some gum and deodorant, and that would pretty much clear that up
