After working in retail management for more years than I care to admit, I was soooo tired of long hours, low pay, crappy benefits. One year ago, right before Thanksgiving, I got laid off from a store because business was slow, and started receiving a ridiculously low unemployment check. I decided it was time to make a serious change. I cashed in a 401K, had to pay a $2300 penalty for doing that, and I went back to school. In less than a year, I am now a Qualified Activity Director in the state of North Carolina, a CNA, and CPR Certified. I am a registered Advocate with The National Alzheimers Association, a member of the Council On Aging, and a member of The Direct Care Workers Association of North Carolina. I'm working at a home care place, but the hours are sporadic, so now I'm trying to get into a program that will give me paid training as a Polysomnography Technician while working there.

Ha ha! I love the way you put this question Turtle Girl! That is great!

When I decided come hell or high water I was going to get my college degree. 2 classes before graduating I found out I was pregnant. The guy took off and I was alone with no decent job and no money. I knew I would have very little help, but decided that I wasn't going to be able to take good care of my son without health insurance and a good, stable job. Everyone thought I was nuts ... thought I should go get a job right away and forget school - but that just made me mad.

So now ... 5 years later ... I got my Bachelor's. Went for another year and got a teaching credential. Got a good, stable job ... and just last December I graduated with my Masters' degree (and straight A's) in Educational Administration. I did it all on my own ... with very little help ... I now own my own home and a brand new truck ... and it is all because I went against all odds ... on my own ... and gave 100% until it was done.

And ya know what? It really does feel as good as they say it does! I am proud of myself ... so is my son ... and those that said I shouldn't ... well they're all dumbfounded. You can do whatever you set you mind to ... I am living proof of that.

Peace to you ...

Well, actually is was exactly 2 months ago.

I told this awesome guy that i was totally in love with him.

And he felt the same way. [[we've been best friends since like 3rd grade]]

And, since we both knew how we felt about each other he asked me out and we've been dating for 2 months today!
It's our second anniversary : )

And, i thought i had NO chance!

So, it proves that if you think you don't have a chance, do it anyways because YOU NEVER KNO!
