Depends on the sort of risk we are talking about. As far as physical risks like testing yourself against the elements, I'm more likely to do things now than before - I feel that life is to be enjoyed and its too late to say "I'll try that some other time". So I've done more physically risky things in latter times.

Also as far as taking risks with saying things that I feel strongly about....to my boss, for instance. I'm now nearing the end of my working life, and am quite outspoken in the face of anything I see as unfair, where in the past I worried about how I would be treated if I said something like that. (This recent habit has landed me in the role of union rep in my workplace !)

I 'm more conservative when it comes to finances, though. I'm acutely aware that what I have now is just about all I'm ever going to have, so I don't throw it around in a risky way. It has to last me a good long time after I retire !

I had intended to do all of those risky things when I retired, but God had different plans. I had a brain anuerism 3 years ago and was forced to retire early. One of the offshoots of the brain damage was not being able to judge distances-so driving is out. There was also some residual nerve damge done by the surgery and walking is a chore now. I pray every day for the purpose my life allows me. I also know that God doesnt always answer in my timetable, so I'll just keep praying. Life has really been very good to me-I'd just like to feel useful again.

How do you think we managed to live as long as we have?LOL I cover my bases now and think before I act, rather than
on impulse, as when I was younger. There comes a time,
when seniors aren't as limber or as apt to engage in risks
because they don't want to break anything. LOL. I look where
my feet are going now. Rather than looking straight ahead
and stumbling. No, I'm one senior who looks where I'm going,
and no longer take risks. At least not concious ones.
And that especially goes for financial ones! Which I don't
have to worry about anyway. Since I don't have any money
to invest in any schemes LOL.

No not nearly as much. Although I am a smoker (risk) and in good health I won't try risky things on purpose. I say that because everyday life involves all kinds of risks such as simply driving on today's highways. I don't pass unless I have to and don't drive in the snow unless I have to (work). I don't feel invincible as when I was a kid because now I can almost see the other end of life.

Funny - I don't take some risks I took when younger [having better sense now!]; yet take others I would never have imagined when young, due to having learned more and being more curious....especially when traveling.

E.G., when younger I would never have thought hiking a rain forest [which is not for sissies!] would be fun...do it now...plus some other things

Not anymore ... and I was always a thrill-seeker when I was young. I scuba'd, flew sailplanes, drove way too fast, hung out with questionable people ... in my 30's I had a risky job ... but with the kids (and one is only 10, though the others are in college), I want to be around for them for a long time, and the future grandkids, too. I remember the wild & crazy girl I used to be, and still am on the inside, and still could be if I wanted to. That's enough for me now.

To a degree that it does not endanger anyone who depends upon me for their living! I still ride cycles (probably foolish, and certainly irresponsible, but I can't give up everything that is fun), am willing to go skiing, wouldn't sky dive when I was young, so I won't be taking that one up (not fond of heights), and take far too many risks with money...but if you take no risks, you make no money. Acutally, when I think about it, hell, just getting out of bed is taking a risk! :-) Goldwing

No, I loved to roller skate as a kid and I even went so far as to buy myself some Sketcher 4 wheel roller skates. But then I got to thinking about it. If I used them and fell down and broke some bones, or sprained something I would be in a world of hurt, and I do not have any medical coverage. So there they still sit in the box, never used. It was pretty dumb to do actually. Maybe I was trying to re-live my youth. I guess I won't be jumping out of any airplanes or bungi-jumping anytime soon either. So much for wishful thinking.

.
No because it takes me longer to recover if it doesn't work out. I know that I have to depend on and take care of myself. I have family but I am my own responsibility. I try not to do something that is likely to harm me physically or mentally. I did go horseback riding on Thanksgiving day. I'm a great grandmother. I used to raise horses so figured I would do OK.
I find that deep hurts seem to affect me more in terms of physical pain, fatigue. I try to protect my heart more than when I was 30.
I took a lot of risks in my younger days. My kids will never say "poor mom, she always wanted to ....." They will say, "remember when mom ....."
