There's no specific time limit since every delivery is different. If it has been an hour and the baby becomes distressed, it's a c-section. BUT if it's been 12 hours and the baby is fine and mom is fine they will give it more time. It's really about how much the mother and baby can handle.

I have heard that once your water breaks they want you to deliver vaginally within a certain period of time, I am not sure of how long that is though because my water broke and I was in labor for an additional 26 hours and I got to deliver vaginally, Not my choice I would have prefered a c section at that time

They'll let you stay in labor for a week as long as you and the baby aren't in distress. There is no time limit.

well, I know that if your pushing stage is going past 2 or 3 hours they start talking about c-sections....the labor part I don't think they start talking about c-sections unless you are going past 24 hours with little progression....basically if you are progressing and changing they will let you continue to do so...but if you slow down or stop they start pushing for the c-section.
