Ok I'm planning on running away to california for a weekend to see what its like. My mom said that next summer she will take me to Hollywood and L.A and San Fran, but I really wanna go to Oakland too. She said if I can give her 3 good reasons to go to oakland she will take me. What are some good reasons?? I just really wanna go because one of my fave celebs are there and he isnt very popular right now and I know where he lives (haha I know im a stalker but w/e) but I can't tell that to my mom, so I need some good things about oakland that will convince her? Because she thinks it's gloomy and dangerous there.

outside of catching a baseball game with my fave team the Oakland Athletics, there is not one redeeming thing about the city of Oakland. It isn't a very safe town. Usually ranks very high in crime. I believe was even #1 unsafe town in america last year or year before. Your mom is spot on with her opinion.

The only things that I found to be cool and/or interesting is the Dunsmuir House, which is a 1900s house turned into a museum. Oakland Zoo and the Oakland Museum.

Beyond that...not much. And just because your fave celebs lives there, doesn't guarantee you will ever see them.

Go to an Oakland A's game, best baseball fans and most fun team to watch play in the Bay Area.

If it's still baskeball season catch a Warriors game if they are in town playing.

Drive to the Oakland Hills and check out the incredible views from there of the Bay Area.

Jack London Sqaure and the Lake Merrit area's are nice areas to check out.

Oakland is a cool city but just not very tourist oriented and of course it has lots of crime.

Oakland has a nice 1) Chinatown. I don't know if your mom will buy you being interested in that. Also,
2) Jack London Square; 3) Lake Merritt
ps- Oakland ISN'T that bad. I like Oakland. So don't be too discouraged by the other posters....

Oakland is the home of the author, Jack London. Going to Jack London Square is really nice day or night. Lake Merrit is also a very nice place during the day.

I was stationed in the Bay Area for three years.

Oakland has a cool stadium. The Alameda shipyard used to be Navy, but it is no longer. Of course, driing across the Bay Bridge is a must.

But don't go downtown. Kinda creepy.

Pretend you are a Raiders and 49'ers fan and you want to "feel like you are just as a superfan"...

Why don't you just stalk someone in LA, then see one of your other fav stas there?
