Depends what the misdemeanor was, and what was the result of the arrest.

If you were convicted of, or took a plea to, something that counts as a "crime of moral turpitude", then you're not eligible for citizenship - ever.

Crimes of moral turpitude are anything that involves dishonesty - shoplifting or other thefts, fraud, passing bad checks etc, or any sex crime.

10 years minimum. You cannot file for citizenship with ANY criminal record. It takes 10 years for a misdemeanor to disappear. HOWEVER, if it was a conviction involving drugs, you may not apply for citizenship at all.
