x=2/(y-1)

how would you make y the subject?

xy - x = 2
xy = 2 + x
y = (2 + x) / x

Just, cross multiply the equation

x(y-1) =2

xy - x = 2

xy = 2 + x

........2 + x
y=.-------------
...........x

........2
y=.------+ 1
........x

Now, try your work "y = 2/x +1"

x= 2 / (y-1)
x= 2 / (2/x+1)-1
x= 2 / (2/x)
x(2/x) =2
2 = 2
