With Pictochat, you can talk to somebody else with "Line of Sight" (you actually have to see them with NO obstructions) up to 300 feet before the connection is dropped.

HOWEVER, it has been personally tested & confirmed (with 2 friends) that you can extended the distance between two people by adding more people between the two furthest people in the same room. The two furthest people were up to 600 feet with one person in the middle acting as the relay.

In theory, you can get up to 4500 feet (~0.85 miles) between two people in one Pictochat room or 16 people if everybody between the two people have "Line of Sight" with the other two people. This DOES NOT have to be a completely straight line! Under this theory, you can have the "chat line" turn corners & such to go around obstructions.

Please be aware that using actual DS games to chat (other than Pictochat) will reduce the distance as a more stable connection between users will be required & one accidental disconnection can cause problems for other users.
