I nursed my first son until he weaned himself at 2.5 years--so I didn't make an arbitrary decision on when he should stop, he stopped when he was ready. The benefits and nutrition continue as long as you nurse, so there is no real calendar reason to wean a child unless the mother wants.
It was freaking awesome nursing a toddler! I wouldn't trade it for the world (I posted some of the benefits below if you're interested.)
I'm currently nursing my second son, he's 8 months and until a couple weeks ago, exclusively nursed. I'll let him self-wean as well.

I examine that the style of breastfeeding mothers is the utmost between top-center type women who've a school preparation. somebody reported that hospices will rigidity a lactation representative on you...that may no longer authentic the place I stay. i replace into asked if I meant to breastfeed once I first arrived and that i'm beneficial if i might have pronounced no they'd not have afflicted with me. i'm no longer able to work out this being a very sensible thank you to coach youthful mothers on the subject of the reward of breastfeeding anyhow, they could desire to study *till now* they have their toddler and till now they come to a decision to formulation feed using "convenience"...there are somewhat some misconceptions approximately it obtainable. i'm beneficial there are already classes in place that furnish parenting instructions to quickly-to-be underaged mothers and that i might wish that the reward of breastfeeding could be on the curriculum. basically, i'm beneficial the attempt is being made, yet as others have pronounced...it comes right down to it being a private selection and maximum folk sense strongly approximately their selection no count number which component to the fence they are on.

I am still nursing my 10 month old. I will offer to nurse him until he is at least 18 months old. At some point, I will start following the don't ask, don't deny philosophy until he stops asking. He's already down to 4-5 times a day so I imagine by the time he's done nursing it will be 1-2 times a day, if that.

I breastfed my first child for 10 weeks and my second child for 12 weeks but combined formula and breastfeeding from the start. I didn't produce enough milk and found breastfeeding to be extremely difficult.Honestly didn't enjoy breastfeeding but did it because I knew it was good for the baby. Do it for as long as you can or want to. Only you can decide what is best for you and your baby!!!!

I am currently breastfeeding a 13 month old and will let him decide when he no longer want to. My first I nursed for only 6 months. I did not have a lot of breastfeeding support and mistook a nursing strike for him self-weaning.

I only nursed my first for 6 weeks(due to my uneducated understanding of BFing); but i am currently still nursing his 11 month old younger brother. :-D I will not make the decision to stop nursing, that is all up to my baby.

Breastfeeding a 21 month old and a 1 month old. I'll stop when they stop.
Honestly when your baby is 364 days old you will probably realize they are going to be the same child when they are 365 days old, with the same needs. Things don't change because they have a birthday.
Also remember that ALL breastfeeding problems are temporary and can usually be fixed in 24-48 hours!

I breastfed my daughter for 15 months. We slowly stopped because she no longer needed it for nutrition and was eating all of her other foods. It was more for comfort. I never denied it to her if she indicated she wanted it but I just stopped offering it to her all the time and holding her giving her a bottle instead of my breast. I loved every second of breastfeeding and can't wait to do it again (I'm 20 weeks with #2).

I plan to allow my baby to decide. 13 months and we are still going strong.
This approach is called child-led weaning.
