ok, i have a couple of the plants, one i wish to cut back just because the stump is getting long and all the leaves are on top. I know the stump will grow new leaves so my question is what about the part that im cutting off with all the leaves on it? Can it get potted and will it re root itself?

Louie! Cover your hands and face before cutting the DIEFFENBACHIA they are really poisonous!
If your get the juices on your hands and then wipe your face it WILL cause swelling and your throat can close up.
If you swallow it, and I doubt that you will....It can cause DEATH!

As for your real question about potting....well I don't know, because I am really sensitive to them.
So no best answer here, just a friendly warning to be CAREFUL!

yes, you can root it but you have to get "rootone" which a powder that you dip what is going in to the dirt. It is a growth hormone and also helps prevent mildew and bacteria from attacking it . Keep it evenly moist, even though they don't like alot of water, while it is trying to establish new roots. BTW it is spelled "diffenbachia"
