So I entered a poem of mine into a contest on Poetry.com and got an email back a few weeks later saying I won an Editor's Choice Award. They are saying my poem is going to be featured in a book and stuff. Anyone know if this is a scam? Or is it the real thing?

If you do a search on Answers for that site, you will find lots of testimonials.
You will probably receive a book, but some people paid and never received anything.
The book they send you will have your poem on the first page. Several people report that they and their friends entered the competition, ordered the books, and each person's poem was only in their copy. Your poem will not appear in books that other people order.
Then they will invite you to an awards ceremony, and you will receive an award if you pay for it.
Then they will refer you to a company called the Nobel Society, and say that the Nobel Society also wants to give you an award that you pay for.
For years you will receive offers from poetry.com and Nobel.

I'm not sure if I would call it a scam...But I know they make or "publish" uber amount of editions each year, and sell the copies to the writers of the poems, as well as apparently many more products. The website looks very cheesy, and flashy as funny as that sounds, that is a red flag. I've been writing for a while, and have honestly never submitting anything to them; an English prof. gave me the heads up some time ago. I know the site advertises itself as the source for the common poet but there is a long process to getting published.

I'd say caution, caution.

Ok... I did this as well and got the same thing... my dad did some research on it and it turned out to be a scam... But that doesn't mean your poem isn't any good!

They want you to buy this book that has your poem in it and all... it was very dissapointing for me when i heard it was a scam.

There are other ones out there though that aren't scams- I'd suggest checking into those... maybe ask at the library!

It's a scam. Their "Award" is meaningless. They will try to sell you copies of that book at absurdly inflated prices. If you're foolish enough to buy one, you'll see how much awful poetry they have included. All the poets in the book, no matter how bad their work is, will have received the same sort of flattery that you have received. The people running poetry.com don't really care about poetry, only about squeezing lots of money out of you.

I am not sure what is real with that site. All I will say is that I hope your poem was copywritten and if they ask for any money...I wouldnt associate with them anymore
