In basketball, a team can call a time-out anytime they have possesion of the ball. But it seems that this interferes with the play. When a player with the ball is trapped in a corner, he can call time-out to avoid losing the ball. This is not the purpose of a time-out so it should not be allowed.

I think it would improve the game if a time-out could only be called when there is a whistle. There are plenty of fouls called so there is ample opportunities for time-outs.

What do you think???

I disagree time-outs are to used wisely by a team such as you pointed out,and if the player with the ball is trap by 2 or more players from the opposition

What is wrong with a player that has the ball that is losing control of the ball, so that he can call a timeout, to avoid his team losing the ball, do you want to risk losing the ball to the other team? I bet those balls can go wild. Even if he is trapped in the corner, what is he supposed to do? If he is trapped etween a couple of players, and he can't pass the ball, and he has put both hands on the ball, and then he moves he will be called for traveling, and that will be what he is not trying to do. So you have to do what you have to do to keep the ball in your favor, and this can give time even to the coaches, whether or not they called for a timeout, a chance to talk to thier team, and show them what they have drawn up on thier board, which I bet that you are thinking that it should be used for. But it sounds like that you want them to lose the ball.

if your trapped in the corner then a time-out is the best way to not lose possesion, so that the coach will tell how to operate the ball and try to not get trapped ;)
