I live in the United States, and would like to gift a friend living in the Philippines with Lechon for Christmas. She lives in Metro Manila. Any recommendations on where to go, best sites to order from? Also, I'd like for this to be delivered on the 24th. How can I guarantee this knowing that it's Christmas Eve? Thanks!

Are you sure your freind will be in Manila for Christmas as many travel home?

http://www.myayala.com/shop/products.asp?categ_id=5&product_id=5167&merchant_code=PNG03 can sell you a small pig for $117 dollars but that's expensive. At least twice what it should be. But a big pig for over 100 is $267.

I would not want to be a wet blanket, but I would instead suggest that you "mandate" your friend to buy lechon from money you will send. This way, they can order the lechon from an outlet they like that is also nearest to them.

For practical reasons, this will also make planning for the other dishes more practical. If for some reason a snafu occurs and the lechon did not arrive, they may not have enough food on the table. But if they themselves order it from a nearby outlet, they can pick it up even if for some reason the delivery system goes haywire.

I wish I could help you. Lechon served on Noche Bueno sounds really great. Have you tried to look up restaurants in Metro, Manila? Here's one I found.

The atmosphere here is decadent Havana, just before the fall of the city to Castro. The food is allegedly Cuban/Caribbean, but that is almost incidental; most people come here... more

You can order it in Cebu and have it delivered to Manila. Cost of lechon in Cebu is around Php 3,000 - 3,500 (Whole) and can be delivered to Manila within an hour via PAL or Cebu Pacific. (Somebody must claim it at Manila Domestic Airport)

you can try myayala.com, they deliver lechon but I'm not to certain if they make deliveries on the 24th, you might find it hard and extra expensive since the 24th is almost always a non-working holiday in the Phils.
