talk about it when it might make him look bad? For example, he doesn't want to talk about what he thinks about Mormons. He wouldn't say what would Jesus do on capital punishment, etc, etc.

He said in the last Hard Ball show that he would not let his religion get in the way of executing the law, waging war, supporting the death penalty, following abortion laws, etc, etc. He said he will execute the laws, even when he doesn't agree with them.

If he's not going to let religion affect his duties, why even bring it up?

wiseman,

Huckabee himself brings it up by talking about his faith and how he's a christian candidate in his ads.

He was basically trying to point out that he's the typical christian, while Romney is a mormon, a new type of christianity that some believe to be a cult.

That is what he was alluding to, but he won't outright say it.

Aside from the power of radical Christianity to subjugate the masses, this disturbing perversion of healthy spirituality does come with an added “benefit”. It enables its devotees to support politicians who rob from the poor to give to the rich, who wage murderous and imperialist wars to enrich the military industrial complex, and who allow their corporate collaborators to blatantly abuse employees, consumers, and the environment. Thanks to the salve provided to their consciences by "knowing" they live in a Christian, morally superior nation (not to mention the security provided by their "guaranteed blissful after-life"), the mélange of groups and people comprising the extreme Religious Right can swear their allegiance to a group of monstrous human beings without feeling a twinge of guilt.

He knows that if he's going to get the nomination, he'll have to ride the wave of the evangelical voters, he has support of half of all evangelicals in Iowa, more than any of the other candidates combined, and he doesn't want to risk losing them. That's his only potential ticket to the nomination. So he isn't taking a lot of risks, just trying to keep doing what he's been doing, because its working, he is in a good position to win Iowa over the longtime frontrunner Mitt Romney. He doesn't talk about Mormonism directly, but the "Christian Leader" pitch he uses in his ads, is to appeal to evangelicals, and to subtlely appeal to a concern they have with Romney's Mormonism. All Huckabee really has to do for now is keep doing what he's doing, and hope that Romney stumbles with the Mormon speech.

He did answer the question on Chris Mathews Hard Balls but you weren't listening. He said he talks about religion because people keep asking him and he would gladly talk about important issues facing the country. Next time pay attention.

Why aren't Christian Liberals asked "would Jesus tell a woman to have an abortion or would Jesus take from one group of people to give to another?"

It isn't the business of one person to forgive for another. I have no right to forgive the crimes committed against someone else. Only Liberals are arrogant enough to think they have that right.

Because he has the support of the base which basically gets to manipulate what topics are discussed.

I'm waiting for someone to ask him if he supposedly is very Christian, like Bush was, then why does he support, like Bush does, an immoral war...

True Christians know there is no moral reason for the Iraqi invasion.

religion and politics dont go together well do they... some people think they have to mention things to cover their own backsides, but then it makes thinking people like you see the other side of things... which means its moot.

Religion means you obey god as ruler rather than men... Politicians obey the state, not god.

Because he is an opportunist who uses religion only when there's some benefit in it for him.

"God" does that sound familiar given the trolls on this site!

I called Huckabee's office, but they left me on hold for 213 hours and counting.

I agree, he shouldn't bring it up only when it benefits him (getting Christian votes). That's a politician for you...

Religion is politically expedient for any Republican. Just like the war (on TERROR!!!!!!!!), they can play that card whenever they feel like it will help them with "the base."
