head over to the library, my friend, & look for some books or magazines. It's possible you might have to look at British castles, or French ones, etc., as I don't know they were all the same. Ask the librarian for help--they're good at that & can likely think of other approaches, such as knights, feudalism, kings, military history, etc.

Just a few titles to get you started, but again, trust the librarian!

The magazine Renaissance has run articles on & off about specific castles all over Europe
Castle by David Macaulay--about the building of one (kids' book, but a good introduction)
A medieval castle by Gail Jarrow (kids again)
Life in a medieval castle by Joseph and Frances Gies

Edit:
try for one of the castles built by Edward I in or near Wales (Harlech is the one that pops to mind, but there are others) or Chateau Gaillard, built by Richard I in France. There's also a good one overlooking the Rhine River in Germany.

Castles were the houses of rich and wealthy kings. There are many castles in Europe. During the medieval period, many castles were built in Italy, Spain, England and France. These castles are still there in these countries

So go to a library.

Cover uses of castle, who built them and why, how long it took to build them, how many laborers did it take and what sorts of materials. Does the paper only have to be about one castle? If not, compare and contrast two. Who was responsible for the castle? How many people did it take to run a castle?

Check out Doune Castle. You can go into the history of it then talk about Monty Python a bit to keep the report entertaining. It looks like quite a few historical figures visited/lodged there as well so you can talk about who stayed there. There are quite a few links to the official site, etc which should provide enough information to beef up the report as well.

Good luck!

Go to www.english-heritage.org.uk - on the homepage type 'castles' in the search box and you will get lots of info and will also get links to images.
