In race cars, spoilers create a downward force which is used the press the rear wheels into the road thus increasing traction through fast corners (i.e. very fast 100 m.p.h. plus), thus keeping the driving wheels driving.
The are not much use on the majority of modern road cars, particularly is the car has front wheel drive or if you dont' do a lot fo freeway driving. The are mainly for looks these days.

well nothing for a regular street car except looks. spoilers are supposed to be used on drag racers and other such vehicles to make wind draft less creating a draft that goes directly over and under the vehicle in more of a straight line instead of fallowing the curves of the vehicle without the spoiler which slows it down big time. The ones that are put on a normal old street car is only for the bling bling and actually makes the car use more gas and oil.

Nothing but looks unless you're going well over 100 miles an hour. In fact, for the most part they cause more drag. On race cars, they push the nose and the rear end down and add more downforce to the car so it can get better traction.

If it's on the front it helps the front tires get better traction.same for if it's on the back. It causes down force on the car. Now if you see a front wheeler with a big wing on the back. Well that's just plain stupid. Because if it really worked it would be pushing the back of the car down causing the front to lose traction. One of the many reasons ricer cars are such a joke.

basically just for looks on a street car but in racing they are used to put more downward force on the rear wheels when going fast, as such in NASCAR.
