There is less hype about the books and the speculation of what will happen now that the last book is out.
However, that missing hype is a small fragment taken out of a colossal mania frenzy that has spread throughout the world.
People still cling onto the movies. And after the movies - the theme park will be along.
Basically - it will take a lot to bring down Harry Potter. What does that do for the morale of the minority who frown upon the series?
Also - J.K. Rowling will make sure it stays huge. And who can blame her? Another billion dollars in check book for a new way to boost up the mania. Hell, I'd do the same thing if I were her.

It has died down temporarily.
Other answers are correct about the movies. Prior to each movie, we will be witness to another round of HP mania. In the meantime, these books and movies will likely remain popular for at least several decades - but after the last movie, the "mania" will depart until some *new* HP book or movie is produced.
The current desire: DVD release of the previous movie. Just look at the questions asking when it will be released over the last few weeks.

No. I'm a HP fan myself. Even if I know that there are no more books, I still spend hours looking in the internet about Harry Potter to learn more about it. I'm not a big fan of the movies but I'm addicted to the books.

It has died down in comparisson to what it was leading up to the release of the seventh and final book, but it has not actually died off. With two movies left and plenty of other elements to anticipate, I don't think the mania as you refer to it will completely die away.

The series is such a sensation. Even with this being the last book. I think that these stories will be shared with every generation.
