OK there are three way that people can be come therapist. After you get your BA in psychology or any related subject, You need a master's in psychology and or a PH. D in psychology. With a master's in psychology you can become a social worker who specializes in becoming a clinician. Or you can become a psychiatric social worker. If you get your Ph. D. that would mean that you become a psychologist with the highest academic degree you can obtain. That would allow you to call yourself Dr, in the medical setting. IF you want to go the psychiatric route you would have to become a medical doctor who specializes in psychiatry instead of say gynecology. The would mean that you were a medial doctor with the ability to prescribe medication. Other therapist and psychologist can't do that.

You are somebody right now. Believe that, or no amount of degree and initials after your name will change that.

Being a mental health therapist is cool, but it is hard work, and the pay is not always too hot.

You'll need a 4-year undergraduate degree and then a 2-3 years graduate degree (master's level). If you go on and get a Ph.D., that's more schooling.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor ... so think medical school.

Good luck!

You are going to have to have some math. You will need at least a bachelor's degree. You will have algebra and statistics ofr sure. It is difficult work at times and the environment is not always pleasant. There is a ridiculous amount of paper work. You have to be sane yourself if you are going to survive. You have to learn how not to take the problems of your clients home with you. Do not be afraid of being nothing, Instead, aspire to be something.
