Yes. I don't think a relationship could be successful without it also being a friendship.

My lover is my husband, and we are friends. He considers me his best friend and not too long ago we had an eye-opening discussion about that. He was complaining that I didn't treat him more like my best friend. And I explained to him that I TRY, but for me, a best friend is someone who's going to listen to me analyze something TO DEATH, bring up old news and re-hash it, (maybe I missed an angle) etc, and the minute I bring up anything with him that he's already heard, if it's a funny story or something I'm analyzing, he lets me know, "You've already said that, move on."
I tell you what, the minute he made the connection, he stopped complaining that I didn't treat him like my best friend.
We have a wonderful marriage, and we share a lot of interests, and we are friends, but we still both need other friends in our lives.

Yeah I am very fortunate, most saturday nights we just sit back and play pvp rpg Sacred Gold. I found someone that shares the same intrests as me. Not only do we love and care about each other but we can just hang out and have fun. That's what makes a great relationship.
