I'm 30 weeks pregnant. The past few days I feel a tightening sensation in my stomach. It's not painful and it doesn't last long or happen on a regular basis. This is my first baby so I'm not sure if I'm having Braxton Hicks contractions or not. Do they make your stomach feel tight?

I've been having these almost non-stop for weeks. The best way to describe them is that they feel like strong menstral cramps, the kind you'd usually take some Midol for if you weren't pregnant. Your stomach sort of tightens up for a little while (about a minute or two) then releases.
You get them when you're in the same position for too long or from drinking caffiene or not getting enough water.
They usually go away if you change positions (ex. if you were laying down, get up and walk around or if you've been walking all day, go rest) and by drinking lots of water.
Water is very important.
They say the real contractions differ from BH in that if you change positions the contractions just keep getting worse, plus there's supposed to be a low dull bachache to go with them. Sounds fun, right????
Anyway, hope I've helped!

Braxton Hicks are sporadic uterine contractions that honestly begin at approximately 6 weeks, even though you will not be competent to suppose them that early. You customarily would possibly not begin to detect them till someday after midpregnancy, in the event you detect them in any respect (a few ladies do not). They get their title from John Braxton Hicks, an English health care provider who first defined them in 1872. As your being pregnant progresses, Braxton Hicks contractions have a tendency to return fairly extra normally, however till you get in your final few weeks, they must stay rare, abnormal, and virtually painless. Sometimes, even though, Braxton Hicks are tough to differentiate from early indicators of preterm hard work. Play it risk-free and do not attempt to make the analysis your self. If you have not hit 37 weeks but and you are having 4 or extra contractions in an hour, or have another indicators of preterm hard work, name your caregiver instantly. By the time you are inside a few weeks of your due date, those contractions would possibly get extra excessive and extra widespread, and purpose a few suffering. Unlike the prior painless and sporadic Braxton Hicks contractions that induced no visible cervical difference, those would possibly support your cervix "ripen": steadily melt and efface, and possibly even start to dilate a little. This interval is often known as "pre-hard work."

My doctor told me braxton hicks are like your uterus warming up for the big marathon. Everything tightens up, sometimes they hurt, sometimes not. Sounds to me like that's what you're having. Mine were uncomfortable, but not really painful. Make sure you mention them to your doctor, not because they're something to worry about, but they are something doc should be aware of. :) Good luck!

its like cramps and the more intense they are the more they should help you dilate, oh and they are not steady like normal , real contractions. They are irregular
