Mom and dad once implied to me that if I dont surrender my ability to think rationally in favor of a monotheism with a bloody history than I am somehow an awful person.

What they where teaching me was cult indoctrination to a group that wants money, as its constistent hypocrisy shows?

^was it Islam or Christianity I am speaking of? You cant tell because the psychology is the same.

One arrogant christian accused agnostics and atheists of "self-serving denial".Yes he was accusing them of exactly what some very haughty, arrogant religion fanatics do. But thats the point, the pot calls the kettle black to take the edge off.
Freud called it "projection".

So is the monotheism of both christians and muslims so similar that their hostility towards the Realist or the Rationalist is equally so ostentatious?

And yes, I know I'm a scumbag for not believing in you god (so your preacher can get my money). Now do your patriotic duty and hate me,lemmings!

sharing a dysfunctional unloving childhood has nothing to do with politics at all...

generalization from a self promoting individual that cannot return in kind the acceptance of living in the same world he gets from Christians..but it is your self respect that is on display..instead of a boogie man in a collar

LOL, I was the one who used the phrase 'self serving denial'. And in hindsight, it seems pretty appropriate. I don't question your beliefs or those of a Christian. What I question is their behavior as a result of those beliefs. You're an atheist? Fine. I couldn't care less. But why does your faith give you cause to believe that the faith of others is foolish? Your faith is based no more on 'facts' than that of the Christian or the Muslim and yet you feel justified in calling them fools for not sharing your beliefs. That behavior, not the belief, Zinger, is what is both hypocritical and foolish. That behavior is self serving denial because it protects your fragile belief from outside influence...just as a christian who does not have a strong handle on his faith.

But I ask too, what makes you think I'm 'Christian'? You focused on the answer, forgetting the context of the question. That might have helped you to understand my answer better.

I find your overall point convincing, yet there is something not right about it. Islamists will cut your throat, shoot you in the back, torture you, rape your family in front of you, and then kill you, all for not believing as they do. A christian will most likely berate you with a long-winded diatribe about your faults. Granted it is only a small difference, but a difference, none-the-less.
