I am well aware I can buy a duster to take care of dust after it has fallen all over my furniture, but how can I combat dust before it ever falls, like while it's in the air? I live near an interstate, which makes things extra dusty. Or is it possible to basically prevent dust in my home?

I run a humidifier in my home, does that help the dust situation?

Dust is almost impossible to eliminate completely. However there are many options. Try a good furnace filter, or a good portable room air purifier. I have an Ionic Air Purifier which does a great job.

Domestic dust is basically your dead skin or that of pets. There is nothing you can do to eliminate dust. All a humidifier does is purify the air.

You can get a air cleaner added to your furnace. Make sure you have good seals on your windows (caulk), and add an air purifier in the rooms closest to the interstate.

However, it won't eliminate dust - just reduce it.

yep moist air will fall and pull the dust out, but as far as being dust free, you would have to live in a bubble,
i live 250 ft back from the road and i still get dust, its in the air,

Try changing your filter that is the intake for the air and also clean your vents where the heat comes out as they maybe have an accumulation inside of them, you will always have it ,but you can reduce it by keeping your windows closed, and changing the bag in your vaccuum regularly as they do stir it up and blow it all over.
