Contiguous means attached, so Alaska and Hawaii are not attached to the US, but are apart. Those are the only 2 not attached, the other 48 are.

Contiguous means that something is attached to something else. That means that 48 of the states are connected together and two are not (Alaska and Hawaii).

That must mean Alaska and Hawaii.
Contiguous means touching/connected, so the other 48 states are all connected.
