Yes, for the simple reason that the people who do this kind of work can be regulated (health checked) and better protected than they are now. It's a horrible enough job for many of them, without running the risks of getting into a strange car, when they could be working in comparative safety in a legal brothel. Also, the boyfriend/pimp scenario, where the girl hands over most or all of her takings would hopefully disappear as well.

Prostitution will probably never go away while young children are sexually abused in our society (which is normally one of the main causal factors in someone becoming a prostitute) so, as this is one of the outcomes of that, then the least that can be done by society as a whole is to acknowledge that a legal framework is easier and safer for these people to operate within, rather than outside of the law.

Yes.

However, it should be in conjunction with drug rehabilitation programs and lots of advise for the users of prostitutes.

I don't think many ppl leave school thinking ''Yeah, I'll be a Pro'' and many of those who are in that game are there because of addiction.

Well, that's the home grown ones.

The 'imports' are forced into it by gangs, and legalising it may help reduce the amount of ppl trafficking into this or any country that legalises prostitution.

I see only benefits in it's legalisation, though I am sure others will argue the other side of the coin.

Good question.

suited prostitution could desire to be legalised- in a brothel or inner maximum house is superb. we could desire to continually stamp out the diseased, junky street nook prostitutes even with the indisputable fact that. And the elementary thank you to do this, is to have heavy HEAVY outcomes for kerb crawling. that's my theory that very much of the money those street prostitutes earn, is going on heroin. we could' go after those "kerb crawlers" rather. All they ought to do, is make it a criminal offense topersistent again and again down an identical street, time and time lower back, with no physically powerful reason. The police ought to grant up street prostitution the following day in the event that they did this.they could additionally provide up a fabulous variety of those stressful boy racer types with an identical regulation.

Legalise it, secure them and save their life's from scummy murderers! these woman and men are still daughters, sons, sisters, brothers etc! It works in Europe so why not here? Safer environments and taxed wages with health checks would help and also stop the evil sex slave kidnappings going on all over especially here in Scotland! It will never go away no matter what laws and **** are passed so may as well make it safer for all! J.

Gordon '''Toley Muncher" Brown is looking into this issue.

Legalised Prostitution = More tax revenue ...yippeeee.

Start learning to hold your breathe - he is also working on an "oxygen" tax - purely in the interest of saving the planet of course.

Back to the original question - yes, why not - better for all parties involved - apart from Plod who might have to go out and harass real criminals.

PS - Instant "thumbs down" from the New Labour Fuhrer bunker. Get a real job you muppets.

It's the oldest profession in the world. Yes it should be legalised in brothels but kept illegal on the streets, this would keep the girls safe and their health could be checked also the streets would be a much safer, and pleasant place for non working girls to walk the streets without being propositioned by men on the look out for sex. Yea I know there will be people that disagree with these comments but tough. Just remember that these women are human beings that are just trying to make a living for their selves doing a job that most of us think of as unpleasant.

As someone with libertarian tendencies I'd say yes. Legalizing prostitution kills the pimping trade, it helps eliminate the spread of disease and destroys a lot of the exploitation in prostitution.

It would also free-up law enforcement to tackle larger crimes, where there is an actual victim.

While illegal prostition produces victims and helps organized crime; legal prostition would eliminate organized crime's stranglehold on the trade and also eliminate the victimization factor.

I think it should, it would make it safer for the women who do it, then there would be health checks and that would be better for those who choose to use them, I have more respect for some of them than of stories I've heard about young women out at clubs going with someone different every night at the weekend.

Chris P has said it all, well said.

I've always thought it odd that it was a crime to pay to do something that is perfectly legal to do for free.

Considering that it would grant prostitutes legal status, with the right to sue abusive employers (i.e. pimps), plus the ability to impose regulation in terms of testing for disease and workplace conditions, I tend to come down more on the side of legalization.
