There are two possible ways to look at your question:

1) Why am I here on this earth?

2) What can I do to make myself happy?

I think most people assume that our purpose here on earth is to make ourselves happy and they are just trying to find what does that.

But if I am being asked why am I here on earth, such a question requires God.

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell ( Russell was a noted mathematician, philosopher and Nobel Prize winner)

People often confuse "purpose" with "career choice."

The purpose of life is to live, garner experiences, make mistakes and learn from them, and, frankly, help others and generally try to leave the world a better place than we found it.
