Most people say... to honor gods birth

but do they really know what christmas is about?

its originally the celibration of a sungod.

a harvest festival that marked the winter solstice—the return of the sun—and honored Saturn, the god of sowing. Saturnalia was a rowdy time, much opposed by the more austere leaders among the still-minority Christian sect. Christmas developed, one scholar says, as a means of replacing worship of the sun with worship of the Son. By 529 A.D., after Christianity had become the official state religion of the Roman Empire, Emperor Justinian made Christmas a civic holiday.

secondly.. jesus wasn't born in december....
it is cold and snowy in december
the bible says that he was born outside with cattle around him...
why would the cattle be outside in december?

Luke 2:8-14 "There were also in that same country shepherds living out of doors and keeping watches in the night over their flocks.

third... the bible never even asks us to celibrate jesus birth... nor anybodys birth... actually the bible sheds a very bad light on birthdays.. did you know there are only two recordings of birthdays in teh bible.. and they are both from oposers of god?

Genesis 40:20-22;
20 Now on the third day it turned out to be Phar´aoh’s birthday, and he proceeded to make a feast for all his servants and to lift up the head of the chief of the cupbearers and the head of the chief of the bakers in the midst of his servants. 21 Accordingly he returned the chief of the cupbearers to his post of cupbearer, and he continued to give the cup into Phar´aoh’s hand. 22 But the chief of the bakers he hung up, just as Joseph had given them the interpretation.

Mark 6:
21 But a convenient day came along when Herod spread an evening meal on his birthday for his top-ranking men and the military commanders and the foremost ones of Gal´i·lee. 22 And the daughter of this very He·ro´di·as came in and danced and pleased Herod and those reclining with him. The king said to the maiden: “Ask me for whatever you want, and I will give it to you.” 23 Yes, he swore to her: “Whatever you ask me for, I will give it to you, up to half my kingdom.” 24 And she went out and said to her mother: “What should I ask for?” She said: “The head of John the baptizer.” 25 Immediately she went in with haste to the king and made her request, saying: “I want you to give me right away on a platter the head of John the Baptist.” 26 Although he became deeply grieved, yet the king did not want to disregard her, in view of the oaths and those reclining at the table. 27 So the king immediately dispatched a body guardsman and commanded him to bring his head. And he went off and beheaded him in the prison 28 and brought his head on a platter, and he gave it to the maiden, and the maiden gave it to her mother. 29 When his disciples heard of it they came and took up his corpse and laid it in a memorial tomb.

this birthday had john the biptisers head on a plater....
this shows that god does not approve of the celibration of birthdays.

I always did as a kid even though we are not really religious. Now I guess we do it out of tradition rather than any other reason.
