Up until yesterday I would have agreed with all the other responses to your question. Now I would have to say a chain nail set of body armor. Did you see the report of the 20+ foot shark sighted by a kayaker off of La Jolla? Lifeguards encouraged folks to get out of the water. Speculation is that it is a great white. (I think you'll need a bigger kayak.)

A wet suit or a kayaking dry suit. Both the water and the air temps are expected to be in the 50's.

A wet suit. No matter if it's 80 this weekend the water is already cold. I've been surfing here for 40 years and it's always good to be ready to get cold.

If you are going to LaJolla I would make sure you are prepared for rough seas. The waves are pretty big this week and the pacific is pretty cold. If you don't have a wetsuit to wear don't bother going. If you do then you are going to have a hell of a great time.

It's quite pleasant here during the day, but the evenings are starting to get chilly.
I'd recommend a jacket for the evenings, but sweaters are not required.
Oh, and they say we'll have rain this weekend.

Depending on where you are from... if you're from the east coast you should be sporting your shorts and tanks, cause I doubt it's colder here than there... but since you are going into water sports, maybe something a lil' warm.
