Don't submit it to your insurance company, submit it to hers. I made that mistake & even though the accident wasn't my fault, I became a liability to my insurance company & my rates went up. If it was the other girl's fault then she has to pay you for the cost to make you car whole again. all you should need in a court of law is 2 estimates from a licensed repair shop. Have you wife tell her cousin that she (your wife) doesn't feel comfortable with such a low estimate, and that she (her cousin) needs to come up with the money so that you guys don't have to involve the insurance companies (this should give her the hint that you are serious)

Turn it in to your insurance if you want the choice of the body shop. You should always call the police and get a police report. As for the body shop, it is required to make the car "whole", that is, it should be like it was before the accident. And if you are not going through your insurance, then she has the right to approve or disapprove a body shop. If you are trying to improve any other thing on the car, it's not anyone's responsibility but yours.

You can take pictures of it and turn them into your insurance company. Tell them what happened and they should be able to have it fixed. Her insurance should pay for it. I am not sure what the time limit is on turning something in. Call your insurance company and find out. If the insurance won't do anything then talk to the cousin again on paying for the damage. You might want to also contact a lawyer and see if they can help you.

Get her insurance information, if you already have it tell her she has two options.
She can pay the $900 and get over it, or you'll just file a claim and be done with it.
This is ridiculous, she hit you, not the other way around. SHe doesn't get to disrupt things and then choose how its handled.
Oh, and you do not need to file a police report. Waste of time and resources.

I would go to the repair shop she chose just to get an estimate. You never know, they might want just as much to repair it. If that is the case let her know it is the same price and take it to the shop of your choice. If it is less expensive you may want to consider paying for the extra to take it to the shop you want. Good Luck!

Hopefully, you called the police and filed an accident report. I got hit by someone I knew. They didn't want me to call the police and said they would report it to their insurance company. But, after I got the estimates, I found out they didn't report it, and I went to a lawyer, and they said since I didn't call the police, it was my word against theirs. Good Luck!

she cannot dictate where you get the vehicle fixed if the accident was her fault. Did you file a police report? If not, you need to do that...in addition, if she has no insurance, you might remind her that she can go to jail for driving without it, if she balks at paying for the damage again.

It looks like you're trying to keep the insurance companies out of this. What are your deductibles? If it's only 500 bucks, take it to where YOU want to take it and have her pay it.
If it's higher, that's her own fault. She has NO say in where you take your vehicle. :rolls eyes at women drivers:

I take it the police were not called and your insurance company was not notified. Either the girl pays up or you make a police report.

bummer that its family... your going to have to stand your ground..
I would have the insurance companys handle it... it may be a problem without a police report, but I would call your insurance company and explain the situation.. see if there is something they can do.. good luck.
