For a class action suit, people with the same complaint join together and file one lawsuit, then if they win anything left over after paying the lawyers and other expenses is split among the people injured. Class action suits normally have to be advertised so anyone who has the same complaint and wants to can join in the suit.

Heck, I've even won a few. Of course, I didn't file it, didn't pick the lawyer, didn't even know it was going on. I've gotten a few letters here and there informing me we won, and that a refund would show up on my credit card. I think it amounted to a whopping $4! One "reward" was a discount at Sears because of my old Sears account that was closed for several years by the time we won the suit.

Still, it feels good to win something.
