Personally, I would consider it a disorder. No one is perfect...no one is capable of total perfection. If a person does nothing other with his/her life than strive for perfection...they are not living their lives in a 'normal' fashion...they are missing out on a lot in life.

It's a mental disorder, the person decides in their mind what perfection for them is, and then attempts to attains it. but it's only a disorder when the extent of perfection is clearly unattainable.

For example a girl who wants to have a clear face might only be happy until her face is unrealistically clear like in magazines. That would be a disorder, but if she just wanted to get rid of one or two blemishes that's not unattainable and therefore not a disorder.

Perfectionism can be seen as being "Anal" (it is a legit psychological term proposed by Freud)

People who are anal feel the need for perfection, organization, etc.

Its not really a disorder, just merely a personality quirk. If it reaches the point where it inhibits normal life styles than its OCD.

(Also, behavioral disorders (aka personality disorders) are mental disorders. Its a sub-unit. )
