Monism is the belief that there is only one kind of "stuff". For instance, the belief that the mind is merely a property of matter and that everything is matter and energy is one form of monism - physicalism, and the belief that all things are mind is another - idealism.

Dualism is the belief that there are two basic kinds of stuff, like souls and bodies for instance.
