New technology not used in war before WWI:
ocean going submarines
airplanes
tanks
poison gas
Most troops were moved near the battlefield by train, then marched or rode trucks. Then even used taxi cabs to move troops in an emergency from Paris.
Most transport was still foot or horse drawn though.

Trains and trucks, except the French army used the Taxis of Paris and bicycles to get to the front. That of course was before they mutinied and refused to fight. Fortunately the American Army arrived and bailed them out.
(The French are very good at getting others to fight their battles. In WW Two they improved the technique and just surrendered.)
