...That no matter what you're personal beliefs or goals are, that America is way too concerned about celebrities and foreign affairs and sports, (i.e. other people's business and trivia,) and this will (er, pretty much HAS,) result in a mass of humanity incapable of improving itself or even controlling its own affairs? Is there a group devoted to overall cultural revision? Or will we fulfill the "prophesy" of "Idiocracy" and continue to treat the idea of eugenics as the Devil's own pitchfork of social damnation?

(Answers from people who can read and write only please...)

Oops, sorry, I meant to type "your" in the first line. If a making an occasional typo is "your" definition of an inferior being, you should worry... And put an electrocution option on "your" spellchecker... Just a thought.

I said the "idea of eugenics," not genocide... Research people. I'm not talking about killing all negroes or something.

Would it make anyone feel better if I used the phrase "the science of not deliberately breeding as many mildly retarded people as possible" instead of eugenics? Probably not huh...

I agree.

In addition, we are dumbing-down our education system, pricing most people out of higher-education and becoming a "nanny" society who must have everything regulated because we can't make the right choices for ourselves.

We have a high-school dropout rate that is outrageous, parents who don't give a dam about their kids schools or education, teachers who don't give a dam and pass the kids on whether Johnny can read or not.

We are fast becoming a nation of morons.

We care more about what Britney is doing than what George Bush is doing.

We fixate on immigrants - legal and otherwise - instead of the mess in Iraq.

We care more about how much a candidates hair-cut costs or what religion the person is than we do about how qualified he/she is to hold the position.

We don't read books, newspapers. Don't research anything for ourselves but, rather, listen to the crack-pots on TV and radio who get paid for misinformation.

We don't know our current legislators, can't find our own state on a blank map, can't find the U.S. on a world map. We don't know anything about world history or our own.

We don't know or care about other cultures on the planet and anyone who isn't exactly like us is denigrated.

It's a sorry state we are in, for sure. Just hoping for the next generation to be a little smarter, more educated, more aware. To think that the current generations are going to be the leaders in a few years is scary.....

Foreign affairs aren't trivia or diversions. They aren't in the same category as celebrities and sports, even if you're just talking about personal love interests overseas.

If the proponents of today's eugenics movement do not endorse the policies and actions of the eugenics movement of a century ago, they would use a different word to describe it, if only for the sake of appearance.

Eugenics, eh...? My, it must be nice being perfect. I agree that our society needs improving, but the idea of erasing an entire group of people is atrocious and disgusting.

But if you insist on implementing this idea, you could do us all a favor by killing yourself first. Or at the very least, go ahead and have a vasectomy so my kids won't have to put up with your inferior offspring.

Why do you single out America? Seems that European and other nations seem quite interested in celebrities and sports as well. When people feel disenfranchised and unable to affect change in society or politics, maybe this is their way of tuning out to what is going on in the world, and immerse themselves in their sports heros, celebrity millionaires, Yahoo, answers, etc. Oh, wait, Yahoo answers is a GOOD thing!

Actually, science is showing more and more that we are more nature (genetics) than nurture (environment). Not to say that environment has no impact, but genetics seem to have a bigger impact than we first suspected especially in intelligence. Unfortunately, those with the highest intelligence seem somewhat less like to reproduce in 1st world nations due to time higher education takes up and longer working hours.

The short answer....society needs to mind it's own business. And celebrities are just people too....that don't deserve the adulation given to them. Good enough?

I can't take seriously a question about how some people ought to be able to make reproductive decisions for others when asked by someone who has yet to master the proper use of "your." I think we'll start with making sure you don't breed, okay?

Now where did I leave my axe?

in so far as the media ....I whole-heartedly agree...the dumbing down of society started long ago, and has increased with each generation, and shows no signs of slowing. stay informed and inform others...practice and use your reason

in so far as eugencis...I suggest you look at your own DNA and any lurking hidden deformities that might make reproductive decisions for you.....before you start thinking about making decisions for others

Why worry about something you cannot change???...you're not the only one but most of us have just turned a blind eye to things we can't improve...and hope none of the morons will get in our way...

Eugenics is not the answer, its based on racist and fallacious concepts.Environment is much more important than heredity
