yeah, you should think about how the battle of the alamo was fought cos the americans were pro slavery and the mexicans were anti.
if you remembered that the jim crow laws were only repealled a few tens of years ago america might be a little less brash when it comes to preaching freedom to the world and inflciting american freedom on the middle east.
you should remember that the whole of america is built on slavery and the US wouldnt amount to anything if it wasn't for the contribution enslaved and abused african people made. then maybe black people owuld get soemthing like equality.

Well done. Drawing global conclusions from empirical observation have been around forever ("Obviously the earth is flat."), but Americans have become the masters at it. Judgments abound: racial, psychiatric, cultural: you name it. The scary thing is that it's become the popular ethic to make laws that uphold personal and exclusive beliefs.
One particularly stunning example occured in the California State legislature recently, when a senator spoke against a referendum measure intended to print all voting materials in several languages. Standing up, he waved a Bible and said, "I have only one thing to say about this issue. If the English language was good enough for Jesus Christ, it's good enough for me."
A famous quote says, "Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it." And let's not forget, for those obsessed with "Family Values": that catchphrase has been used time and time again to justify the most outrageous repression. A fearful populus is the breeding ground for the installation of Fascism. That, and the veneration of ignorance. It's just a fancy word for Tribalism. There is nothing more dangerous than "democracy" wielded by an uniformed public. Then you have a lynch mob. What did one Hollywood star testify famously during the McCarthy hearings? " I don't know what a Communist is. I just know I hate them."

YES is the answer.Too many of us today just avoid it.Take a good look at your countries background.Bit like a kids, some embarrassing episodes, some outrageous deeds, but some fantastic achievements.Look but balance that info with some time/date perspective. You cant blame the sins of the father on the son , but you can learn from daddies sins !.

Yes we need more enlightened people here. It's ridiculous how many talking head tape recorders continue to spout the party line instead of making good sense. Take away what somebody told them to say and you are just left with a bunch of people with their mouths flapping and making grunting incoherent words.

Yes, more people should read more about our history, and at the same time, they should not pull facts out of context.
Pointed facts without broader perspective fall more into the category of creating dis-information than in passing along useful information.
