Go to the library and spend time perusing plays.

Find one that YOU connect with. You will have to do your own "monologue cutting". Practice and make sure it is exactly within the specified time limit.

The monologue books can be ok IF, as someone stated, you read the whole play.

I agree with your friend- the free monologue sites and teen monologues are not usually up to the standards of the tried-and-true plays. No movie monologues.

Try to avoid picking one that is just a character passively recounting a story.

Have fun and good luck.

It's kind of sad that you want to go to a Performing Arts school and you don't know how to pick out a monologue. That's the first thing you learn to do as an actor.

Check out that site, it shows good plays to look at to find monologues from. Just look for large section of text in which a female character is speaking. Find a monologue you like, work it, then perform it.

Definitely read the whole play! There are some great monologues in a lot of Tennessee Williams plays and in "Kennedy's Children". Try to chose something from an author that is respected and has survived the test of time, not just new and exciting.

because of the fact that is a contest, i could see what style of monologues have gained in previous years. Doing a monologue approximately looking a monologue could be humorous, yet they could not approve of unique monologues. additionally the question of length is substantial as properly. seem at previous years' winners and see what style of monologues the judges have everyday and in case you could tell the place those monologues got here from. it is your perfect guess!

It is important that the monologue and you are a perfect fit. that it would be a part that you would be cast for. and there are darned few good parts for teen women outside of Shakespeare. You do not tell us your age, so it is hard to choose what might be good for you. There are teen roles in Picnic by Inge and Dark at the Top of the Stairs also. Check those out.

Stay away from over used pieces. Have several pieces ready, Greek piece, Shakespeare, Classic, Modern and a comedic piece.

You are going to have to read, read, read! Read the entire play backwards and forwards. Have more than one monologue...have several memorized and ready to go. If you pick popular pieces be ready for them to be bored by them because they have already seen it a million times from someone else auditioning with the same piece. Choose pieces that are age appropriate for you. Don't try to reach and play someone like Lady Macbeth...keep it simple.

Have you read any good plays? Look online (Google: "Monologues for women") Go to the local bookstore, you'll find collections of monologues. When you find one you like read THE WHOLE PLAY. Understand the character. And keep it around your age. I suggest looking at plays by modern playwrights like Tennessee Williams, Eugene O'Neill (my favorite), or Arthur Miller.

Pick a Play or piece of work that will showcase you and make sure it is one you are confident and comfortable with so you look good. DO not try and do something to safe or boring or common. Try and be Original go classic and have fun.
