...the voices are always negative? Why can't someone have a voice in their head saying "Dang, you look great today!" or "Nice job on that project!", or at least something constructive like "Hey - why don't you go for a salad for lunch instead of that Big Mac?"

Great question. My classmates and I asked the same thing in grad school (our hypothetical voices told us to call our mothers and be nice to puppies), and the general consensus was that if someone was hearing positive voices, they would attribute the thoughts to their own internal monologue, rather than identifying them as psychotic.

I used to hear only the negative voices, but recently the positive ones have come out, and let me know that I'm doing well, and making the right choices. They are there, you just need to listen for them. Best of luck with this :)

It relies upon on the type you outline "listening to voices". The sciences of psychiatry and psychology have struggled to outline what's regularly occurring. listening to voices could be a demonstration of schizophrenia or bipolar ailment. that is not inevitably genuine that folk who declare to take heed to voices of religious figures at the instant are not deemed mentally ill. in case you doubt this, only attend a sanity listening to it sluggish. I could desire to disagree with the respond given by potential of one the respondents that God does not talk to us on the instant. God is often with us and speaks to us in many techniques. only because of the fact He does not seem as burning bush does not recommend he's not chatting with us. could it make any experience that a loving father could say, "here, examine this e book. i'm unlikely to be chatting with you anymore".

There probably are good voices like that... but why would someone with good voices ever see a therapist?

You'd have no reason to... or at least no one (including yourself) would feel/notice a reason to.

We ALL hear good/bad voices. Think about it. think. You're hearing them right now. The good blends in, the bad is bright in the darkness.

Ya know...I've always wondered that myself. When you think about it though...when they're negative, people think you're nuts...but when they're positive...it's just written off as self motivation, or having a good conscience.
