There's this stuff called "Simply Saline for Babies." It's a spray, not drops. I've found that it gets up in the nasal cavity better (working on the blockage better) and it's easier to administer. You can also try putting a humidifier in her room.

My 5 month old has the same problem. The thing that has worked the best for her is bringing her into the bathroom with the door closed and running the shower as hot as it will go, the steam helps some of the gunk come out. I also use a humidifier in her room which helps. I have seen a lot of advertisements for a suction for babies noses that is electronic, so you don't have to squeeze the bulb and I have heard that it works very well too, I think I am going to try it out. You can find them on Targets web page, it's called the "NasalClear Nasal Aspirator" and it is only like 20 dollars. Hope this helps!!

humidifier will help if you use it on a constant basis, not just a one time use.

use a suction, but first put 1-2 drops of saline, and let it sit for a little bit, in the nostril to soften or break up hardened mucous. That may work this time.

to ease a stuffy nose you can also turn the shower on, close the door and let it get steamy in there- take your baby in there and sit for awhile (not actually IN the shower) or do it during bath time.

some newborns just have stuffy noses for awhile. if she's breastfed you may want to consider that its something in your diet like dairy or whole grain.

That is really all you can do, the only other alternative is a cool mist humidifier to help loosen the stuffiness. I know because my 8 week old is constantly stuffy and it drives me nuts! I just continue to use saline and bulb syringe! Just keep at it, and repeat 2-3 times until the hard stuff up there really softens and keep trying to get it out, thats what i do, and it DOES come out eventually. If baby gets irritated, leave be for like an hour and try again. Could also be dry heat in your house, keep the heat turned to lower degree. Good Luck!

I use saline drops for my 2 1/2 m/o and than suck it out.. You can also try a humidifier.. I don't have one because they are very expensive, I just turn on the shower and let the room steam up and sit in there with him for a while. Usually the saline drops work instantly though..

Using saline and a bulb syringe is really all you can do. It seems like it doesn't work because it upsets the baby and makes them cry, producing more stuffiness.
The only thing I could do was to do that routinely and as quickly as possible so I could calm him down immediately afterward so the crying would not create more of a stuffy nose.
Good luck.

Just as a squeeze bottle is used to force liquid out, an empty baby squeeze bottle is made to do the reverse!

We found that our boys had a difficult time learning to blow their noses, so the baby squeeze bottle is the perfect tool. It is very inexpensive and has a soft, rounded point on the cap. You squeeze the air out of the bottle first and hold it. Next, insert the tip of the bottle into the baby's nostril, while it is still being squeezed. As soon as the tip is within the nostril, you can release the bottle and its natural reaction to "draw" air in will now draw fluid from the baby's nose instead.

The fluid gets caught in the plastic bottle and can be cleaned afterward. This is the only way to remove that fluid safely and completely at that age.

Best of luck!

i had the same thing with my son when he was a little younger. i would sit in the bathroom with him, with the shower turned on very hot for about 15 mins. then i would drop the saline in his nose and use the sucking thing. i also put at humidifier in his room. putting something under her crib or bassinet mattress to elevate her head may help her sleep better as well. good luck!

Maybe take her into a bathroom with the shower on very hot. Other than that, the saline drops and suctioning are the only things you can do at that age.

The saline will work to a point, but all you can really do besides that is keep it clear with a bulb syringe. Giving her a vapor bath will help too.
