i had just seeked legal council with a lawyer for a discrimination complaint, but before i had him take the case, i filed the complaint with the eeoc first. does that effect anything?? what do i need to??

No, it doesn't really matter.

In several (but not all) States, you 'must' file an EEOC action and get a 'right to sue' letter before you can proceed anyway.
