It wasn't really a friendship. Manson hung around the LA music scene and met lots of musicians. His strongest connection was with the Beach Boys.

think that show kinda just didn't go into enough detail when saying that Neil Young said that Manson was "great, really really good" I believe Young probably just saw him play at a party or somewhere in LA and was impressed. check out the book "The Family" by Ed Sanders its a great read with a lot of insight into the Hollywood and hippie scene at that time.

A&E has to do research before they program it so I would say yes. On a History Channel show about the Beach Boys they said that Charles Manson wrote two songs for them that actually got "air play" and the residuals from those songs went to the estate of Sharon Tate and the Folgers family. The songwriter collects residuals for songs from ASCAP/BMI depending on how many "spins" it gets

dont know that to be true. But he definately hada relationship with the beach boys. Lived at their house for a while. He was a wannabe musician so i would not find it hard to believe if he was friends with Young
