Progesterone 10 mg a day to delay a period?

I have an event on the weekend and need to delay my period until Monday (it is supposed to start on Saturday). My doctor put me on Progesterone 10 mg a day for 7 days. Has anyone ever tried this and did it work? My doctor said she wasn't sure it would work but that it was worth a try.
