You make a very good point. Unfortunately, for most people, Christmas has lost its religious significance.

I'm agnostic but the Christmas holiday is more of a family get together than a celebration of Jesus. we pray before the meal, and i don't protest it because it would take away from my other family members enjoyment of the day. did you put up the question of Jewish people celebrating Xmas. you might want to ask better questions that you really have a chance of changing some ones life for the better, but i suspect you just like trying to dictate to others, an have no real issues to present to others that would just benefit them, you should keep to your own business an not stick your nose in others business

The end of the year can still be a great time to get together with loved ones and exchange gifts. Religion doesn't necessarily need to be involved. I don't even wish Merry Christmas anymore, I just say Happy Holidays, because I realize that for some people, end-of-year celebrations aren't about Christ.

Christmas isn't exclusively christian you know.
There was a winter festival celebrated by the wiccans and other paganistic religions years before the church spread its tentacles into other countries and steamrollered their faiths.
In addition, the secularisation of western society has in turn co-opted christmas as a festival of family togetherness and celebration of the year.
I propose that atheists seize new years as an atheist festival, one that no-one else can celebrate. We don't need a reason, just something to enjoy, like our freedom or another year of advances by humanity.

I celebrate because I do believe in Jesus Christ, the Saviour of mankind. Although mocked and maligned, He loves everyone and His story will never die. I have news for those who hate Christianity: it will never die or go away.

I don't celebrate his birth.
It's dark and cold and usually wet this time of year.
Thus, doing cheery things lifts one's spirits.
I love Christmas trees, turkey dinner, and the other trappings.
It just doesn't have anything to do with religion for me.
There's no law against people partying if they want to.

I like Christmas, it's fun. I was brought up to believe all that religious stuff but then I grew up. But I still enjoy the holiday. Why shouldn't I?

I dont. I spend xmas alone with a bottle of booze watching 70s sci-fi shows because I cant go to work and everything is closed. Its not my fault that the western world stops every year because your worthless god-man who probably never existed died on a cross and then somebody abitrarily decided to set that date as December 25th hundreds of years later because of some pagan holiday.

pagans were giving presents as part of the winter solstice celebration long before the catholic church decided to use Jesus to convert them with a false date for his birthday. why do you think they gave the biggest festival they had as his birthdate?
