John Keats began a poem to a certain roman god like this
what roman god was it?
"God of the golden bow
And of the golden lyre
And of the golden hair
And of the golden fire
Charioteer
Of the patient year
Where--where slept in thine ire
when like a blank idiot i put on my wreath
Thy laurel, Thy glory
The light of thy story
Or was i a worm--to low crawling for death?"

Apollo, the laurel refers to the story of Apollo and Daphne. Wherein Apollo taunts Eros (Cupid) about his bow, saying that he (Apollo) was the god of archery and youngsters should stay out of his territory. Eros responds by inciting a burning love for the nymph Daphne in Apollo's heart. At the same time, Eros makes Daphne never want to fall in love. So when Apollo approaches her, she flees and just when he is about to catch her, she wishes that she was no longer attractive, she is immediately transformed into a laurel tree. This left Apollo madly in love with a tree and why the laurel branch was held in such high esteem.

Apollo. Since Roman worship of him stemmed from Greek worship, he has no direct Roman counterpart, although the Romans did sometimes refer to him as Phoebus.
