If things are the same in 20 years, which they probably will be,your son will always be thought of being a Black man when it is seen in print.
If your white son fills out a job application, the maybe racist person that goes over applications will chuck his out.
Why would you want to give a child a handicap? I am NOT a racist, but the example I gave is as on point as you can get.

I grew up in a small town, so this race-specific name stuff still confounds me. Now, if it's ethnic I understand ... naming a white girl Dashiki may be a little obvious, but otherwise it doesn't bother me.

I grew up with a boy - a very red-neckish White boy - named Tyrell; we now go to the same college, and he refuses to go by anything other than his middle name because as a freshman he got jumped for having a "black name". I thought that was ridiculous ... he was the only Tyrell in town, so to all of us it was a very white name.

When I was in high-school, I had a Japanese friend ... her mother and father were both born in Japan (her mother spent her entire life there, her father was raised in America). The mother was pregnant and wanted to name her second daughter Tamika - a Japanese name that means "many beautiful flowers". She was harassed into changing her mind because "Tamika" was a "black" name ... that amazed me. So, the person who is of the culture that the name originated from was harassed for wanting to use the name because it had been adopted by a culture she didn't belong to.

So, in short, I am more or less color-blind towards names. I think that Terrell would make a wonderful name for a little white boy or a little african-american boy

I think it does sound more like a black name, but then again the only guy I know named Terrell is a white guy, who lives in a very white upper middle class neighborhood.

If a person likes a name, they should go with it and not be influenced by other people's "possible" perceptions of the name. I've never actually met anyone with the name Terrell, but might assume that it was a black person. But I also hear the name Keith and assume, from personal experience, that someone nameed Keith will be a mean, conceited little twerp. So people will have perceptions of alot of names for alot of reasons. Life is short- do what makes you happy.

I would think of the name as a black boy. However with the popularity of Terrell Owens of the Dallas Cowboys and yes he is a good player never to mention has a nice body, it would go. That could be his lead to several conversations, my dad named me Terrell because he knew I ecel in whatever I had before such as T.O. and my mother agreed with my dad cause she knew my body would be that of the same finess.

I don't like it for a baby of any race, although when I hear the name Terrell I think of a black man.

I have been strongly criticized here for voicing my opinion on what my son intends to name his unborn son. It's not that I don't like the name they have chosen, I just think it is inappropriate. But, honestly, I don't think there is anything wrong with the name Terrell. There is a Terrell, Texas. Tell everyone you named him after the town!

I think it's perfectly fine to name your baby Terrell. I was almost in the same situation. If I was going to have a boy, I wanted to name him Tyree, but it didn't sound like a white name. Name your baby whatever you want, if you don't, you'll most likely regret it.
